What is the reputation of Acura trannies and couldn't they just use the Integra or one of the other model designs? I would submit to you that the real question is WHY, WHY, WHY do they have a problem with his (making a good tranny for the higher HP)? As I stated if nothing else couldn't they simply emulate the Toyota? What do you think of my 'pride and stubborness' thesis outlined above? Also, doesn't Honda make the Acura line of vehicles? I think some of those cars have TONS of HP and torque (albeit on lighter frames). Failing that I would offer a manual transmission option model which would be something of a cop out, but would give me a monopoly on the segment of the market who preferred sticks or who liked the Odyssey, but feared their transmission problems. Problem solved Honda's quality ratings go up and I could then afford something better than a 2001 Odyssey destined to ruin my finances in about 30K miles. I would simply attempt to 'copy' the Sienna transmission design (with minor changes so as not to be sued) and integrate it with the equal or superior Honda engine. What are some alternative explanations? I am by my own admission an ENGINEERING IDIOT ( as well as most other types of idiot as well), but if Honda made me 'chief engineer for quality improvement' and paid me 50K per year I believe that I could do better. Despite this empirical evidence that the tactic no longer works I find that I persist (with minor postional variations) in utilizing this tactic unless I force myself not to do so. However, once they learned the game (and my tendencies) it is much less successful in forcing folds.

By way of analogy I would equate this to my old habit of almost always 'raising on the ante' in Texas Hold'em Poker which used to work very well against my local buddies. This probably stems from the fact that the Accord transmission model has 'historically' been very reliable for them (on Accords).

I believe that they are philisophically 'overcommitted' to using a hyped up undersized Accord style transmission on a vehicle which is simply TOO HEAVY to accomodate such a design. Here is one hypothesis for you experts to shoot down. Why in God's name would Honda STILL be having problems with their 2005/2006 transmissions after all of their experience in dealing with tranny problems? If they were Chrysler, Ford, or GM I would understand their seemingly being 'stuck on stupid'.
